Color Restoration

Carpets that have faded from sunlight or chemical exposure may be restored back to their original color through our color repair service. Dyes are guaranteed permanent and colorfast, and freshly dyed carpet may be walked on immediately.

CARPET COLOR SOLUTIONS may be able to save you the trouble and expense of having to replace the carpet by spot dyeing the affected area.

Stubborn stains such as KoolAid, wine, mustard, pet stains, coffee stains or inks the problem is two-fold.  We approach these types of problems as color issues, not simply as stains. First the offending color must be removed which often removes all or most of the original carpet color. Many products, whether a consumer or commercial cleaning product, can create far worse problems when used to remove stains because they can chemically “burn” or destroy carpet fibers in the process. More importantly, certain stains require very specific treatments to properly remove the stain.  Common Repair Costs

Stains

Stains are discolorations to fibers. Perhaps you accidentally spilled some bleach or cleaning products on your carpet and notice it left a very light mark. Chances are you have just experienced color loss from those fibers.

A broad range of chemicals and other factors can cause color loss on carpet. Bleach is not the only culprit. Although the chemicals are different from household bleach, most acne medications, some cosmetics, hair treatments and other medications contain a form of a bleaching agent. Many common cleaning products, including many popular carpet-cleaning products, scented home deodorizing products, pesticides, pool and spa chemicals, some perfumes, aerosol sprays, laundry detergents contain bleaching agents and many other chemicals cause unwanted color loss, fading or discoloration. These areas may appear as white, orange, or yellow spots on your carpet.

Fading

sun fadeMost fading is caused by direct or indirect sunlight shining on the carpet.  Generally it is more severe at the window and gradually becomes less noticeable as you move towards the center of the room.  Carpet also, can get faded or dull in heavy traffic lanes. Artificial lighting, water damage, certain organic and synthetic chemicals in some foods and beverages, can also cause fading. With this kind of problem, the consumer is led to believe that there are only three options if carpet becomes faded.

1. Live with it.

2.Patch it.

3.Replace it

Although this is a situation that can look hopeless, it is relatively inexpensive to remedy. At a fraction of the cost of replacement, Carpet Color Solutions can re-dye the faded areas.  The results of this type of repair are very pleasing and effective and give a near-new color level that can add years to the life of your carpet. Even the most severe sun-fading can be re-colored.

Filtration Soil

If you notice those grayish to blackish-looking lines around the perimeter of your rooms, then you have what is known as, filtration soil. These

oils, acidic soils, and other pollutants collect at the edge of the carpet, under doors, around furniture, etc., and can easily stain the carpet fiber. Many of these acid based filtration soils may be permanent and/or cause color loss. Soil particulates are so microscopic, that it can take time for the staining to occur. It is not easily removed by normal cleaning. It requires specialized spot removal techniques that CARPET COLOR SOLUTIONS offers.  The good news is that you can do something to help prevent this from occurring!

Whether you see dust or not, always vacuum the edges of all the rooms in your home with a crevice tool at least every other month. Keep your HVAC filters clean. Check your filters weekly to determine when you need to replace them. Consider the investment of using electrostatic filters for your HVAC system.

Homeowners should purchase and use true HEPA vacuums, with disposable bags, that prevent the dust and soil from reentering into the room causing the airborne contaminants to filter through the edges of the carpet.

When you close off a room’s air supply duct, try blocking off that same room’s cold air return. If you do not, the return can draw in soils from other rooms that can create filtration soil. Or, simply leave that room’s door open.

Encourage smokers to outdoor activity.

Rust Spots

Rust is generally made up of iron oxide, which is metal exposed to water. The bottom of furniture is commonly covered in metal. If a drink or other water source is in contact for a period of time, rust will form. Refrigerators, air conditioners, water heaters, metal legs of furniture will all cause rust on carpets. It will then bond to the carpet making it difficult to remove.

Wicking

Do you have a spot that you thought was clean only to see it reappearing again and again?  This is one of the most common complaints from many homeowners.  Wicking is the process by which many spills or what appears as a spot or stain, re-appear. Wicking causes that spill, which is largely in the backing of the carpet or the pad below, to surface as a re-appearing spot.

When moisture is applied to the spot to clean away the problem, the moisture creates a channel for the spill to surface.  Realize that this is normal and eventually this spill will “wick” away.  One way to virtually eliminate the problem (spill) is Deep Pad Extraction. This actually cleans the pad below the carpet.

WaterClaw

The WaterClaw Sub-Surface Spot Lifter literally flushes contaminants from carpet fibers, backing, and pad.  Water Claw WhtAnything that soaked down into the pad, urine, beverages, over-the-counter products, almost everything can now be removed without lifting the carpet! The WaterClaw Sub- Surface Spot Lifter has revolutionized spot removing techniques and results.

Have You Made the Carpet Stain Worse?

If you’ve already tried carpet stain removal and it didn’t work or got worse, you may have inadvertently made the stain permanent.  cleaning bucket

Scrubbing the stain

Applying heat to the affected carpet ignoring the stain

Drowning the carpet in cleaning solution; failing to remove any excess substance.

These are some of the activities that can cause a stain to set, meaning you need to call Carpet Color Solutions. Amazing results can be achieved on a variety of spotting problems when combined with our professional knowledge of carpet cleaning solutions.

Pet Stains and Odors

Unfortunately, urine is one of the most difficult stains to remove because it’s an acid that sinks deep into the fibers of your rug and carpet. WhenPuppy on carpet it comes to pet stains in the carpet, the most common problem is cat or dog urine.  Pet urine can affect the dyes used in carpet, sometimes permanently.  Pet carpet stain removal depends on the content of the urine, the dyes and finish used on the carpet, and the time elapsed after your pet left their mark. Some urine spots may be  immediately noticeable, while others may take weeks or months for a reaction. Also note that when pet urine spots develop slowly over much time, the carpet dyes and fibers can he permanently damaged. Immediate pet urine removal should b deployed.  In beige carpet, blue dyes are attacked by pet urine, leaving behind the red and yellow dyes with a resulting stain appearing red, yellow, or orange.

Urine has several components that can be washed away with ordinary cleaners.  It is the insoluble urine (uric acid) crystals that are the source of most of urine’s stain and odor. These crystals cling to any surface, including smooth, hard surfaces like tile and porcelain. Many household chemicals like bleach can’t remove them effectively.  Many products on the market attempt to mask the urine odor with other fragrance, or seal in the urine.  Other products dry out the urine salt crystals with alcohol or solvents. These are short-term solutions only, and leave the insoluble urine salt crystals in place.  Have you ever tried such products and thought they worked, only to have the urine smell return when the product wears off or when high humidity reactivates the crystals?

Odor Removal

Anyone who owns a pet knows that pet odors can sometimes be a problem.  catCat owners are particularly aware of this-    if their scent remains, they will keep on coming to the same spot. Pets who are prone to accidents can give your home an unpleasant aroma. We use a variety of products that can eliminate urine and fecal odors, as well as other odors from carpets.  Some contain enzymes that will actually break down the source of the odor.  Odors should be eliminated when they first occur, because the longer the source of an odor remains on a surface, the harder it will be to remove.

Avoid using over-the-counter carpet deodorizers and aerosol products for carpet. They contain baking soda, and once in the carpet, they are hard to remove. Problems associated with products containing baking soda include:

  • Draws moisture to affected area.
  • Moisture activates urine salts causing unpleasant odors.
  • Damp urine salts can delaminate the carpet backing-system causing seams to come apart and in some cases, carpet buckling to occur
  • Damp carpet can cause other types of bacterial growth.

Carpet Color Solutions offers pet odor treatment to their clients.  The treatment varies depending on the severity of the odor problem.  The technician will recommend an odor treatment appropriate for your situation.

An odor-eliminating solution is applied to the carpet during the pre-conditioning stage of the cleaning process. This treatment is the most affordable and works well to eliminate odors caused by simply having a pet living in the home. It does not generally work well for urine.Water Claw An odor-eating enzyme is applied directly to the urine spot, saturating the carpet and pad. The solution is then extracted using the “Water Claw”.  Although this treatment works for most pet odor situations, it is not guaranteed.  Pet urine can cause permanent damage and may require carpet and pad replacement if left untreated.

A Solution for Homeowners

The average carpet will last 15-20 years, but carpets are prematurely replaced 70% of the time for reasons other than wear. Those same carpets will be in good structural condition when discarded, but the appearance (color, discoloration, stains, fading, traffic areas, etc.) is unacceptable. Although a carpet should be cleaned properly at least once a year, improper cleaning or inadequate cleaning can actually harm the beauty and life of the carpet.

“How Carpet Protectant Works to Preserve and Protect Your Carpet”

New Carpet Fibers -

Here’s an illustration of what your carpet fibers look like when they’re new—all squeaky clean.

Dirty Carpet Fibers

As your carpet fiber surfaces become worn and walked upon, their surface is now porous and it attracts and traps more sand, dirt, pollen, sand-spurs, dust mites and their feces, along with everything else your family has brought home from the outside world.

Worn Carpet Fibers

Cleaning will remove the soil and reset the nap on many carpet fibers. However the scratches are still on the fiber.

Protected Fibers

When protectant is applied after a each professional cleaning, the porous openings in your carpet fibers are filled in, leaving a smooth, like-new surface. Every time you vacuum, all the sand, dirt, pollens, dust mites … and their feces, are whisked up by your vacuum instead of staying in the pores of your family’s carpet.

Note:  Carpet Color Solutions recommends the application of Scotchgard after each cleaning and/or dyeing, of all carpets.  See Scotchgard Carpet Protector.
